Dear Reader,
It’s Wednesday. Welcome to the seventeenth edition of 5 Boring Observations.
Polling has closed. While the race was close, one observation managed to earn the distinction of being “most boring”, and that observation was:
“Shirts are sized.”
I must admit that since making this observation a week ago, my feelings have changed towards this simple statement of fact. What once inspired only boredom, now fills me with a certain gratitude. I’ve never known a world where shirts were not sized - a fact I took for granted up until the very moment I started this paragraph. I’m totally ignorant as to when the practice of sizing began, how these sizes came to be determined, where the sizing happens and who the hardworking people are who contribute to all the various stages of what I imagine to be a grand effort. The sizing system is not without its quirks and imperfections, but on the whole, it seems to do an alright job. No matter where I shop, I can reasonably expect that a large-sized shirt will feel like a large-sized shirt.
Just to be clear, the gratitude does not displace the boredom. Rather, the two feelings sit side by side, as if sharing a park bench on a nice, Spring day.
A thank you to all who voted and shared thoughts in the comments.
Without further ado, here are this week’s 5 boring observations:
Bananas ripen.
Pride goeth.
Months are to come.
Scents smell.
The sun is around.
The poll will be active for a week, if you need time to think it over. Other than that, there’s some housekeeping below, followed by one boring photo.
Thank you very much for your time.
Sincerely,
Ikechukwu Ufomadu
Some Housekeeping:
I’ll be in Pittsburgh on Friday, March 14th for a round of Amusements at Bottlerocket Social Hall. The tickets are on sale now. That’s right. Right now.
I can't believe 5 Boring Observations is already turning 17. Next year they'll be off to college already... (they grow so fast, sniff)
pride... goeth?! boring??
